WP Notificator at WordCamp Athens 2025

This year I had the privilege of taking the stage once again at WordCamp Athens to introduce WP Notificator! A project that connects WordPress with real-world, physical notification devices. Sharing it publicly for the first time was an exciting moment, and the community’s reaction made it even better. Here’s a recap of the event and my presentation.

This year I returned to WordCamp Athens once again as a speaker, and had the chance to present WP Notificator to the community for the first time. It was an exciting moment to finally share the project publicly, connect with attendees, and gather valuable early feedback. Here’s a recap of the event and my presentation.

The Event

WordCamp Athens 2025 once again gathered an amazing mix of WordPress users, developers, designers, agency owners, and creators. With two full days of talks, workshops, and hallway conversations, the energy was exactly what makes WordCamps special: open, friendly, and full of curiosity.

The Presentation

My talk focused on introducing WP Notificator as a project, not just a plugin, but a complete ecosystem of:

  • A WordPress plugin that sends real-time events
  • A physical device that receives and displays those events
  • A companion mobile app
  • A cloud service layer that ties everything together

The audience was highly engaged, asking insightful questions and sharing their own experiences with notification systems.

During the session, I shared:

  • Why WP Notificator was created and what problems it solves
  • How real-world, glanceable notifications can improve workflows
  • The early hardware prototypes and how the device functions
  • What’s coming next, including automation rules, integrations, and the mobile app

The audience response was incredibly positive. People asked thoughtful questions, challenged ideas, and even signed up to receive one of the early test devices. That level of interest validated that this project has a place in the WordPress ecosystem.

Key Takeaways

Presenting at WordCamp Athens always gives me clarity and motivation. A few things stood out this year:

  • The WordPress community loves innovation. Anything that pushes boundaries, even unconventional ideas like IoT + WordPress, gets real attention.
  • People want simpler notification systems. Not everything needs to be on your phone, email, or Slack. Physical notifications resonate more than I expected.
  • Early feedback is gold. Talking with attendees helped shape the next steps for both the plugin and the device.

Looking Ahead

The next few months for WP Notificator are exciting:

  • Early testers will receive their devices in January 2026, unless something unexpected delays production.
  • A follow-up email will be sent before shipping, including a few setup questions so each device can be configured properly.
  • Anyone interested can also join the mobile app beta, which will allow full control of alerts directly from your phone.
  • New integrations and automations are already underway based on community suggestions.

If you missed the presentation or want to learn more about the project, feel free to reach out. I always enjoy chatting with people who want to experiment, test, or collaborate on something new.

Acknowledgments

A huge thank you to the organizers of WordCamp Athens 2025 for another outstanding event and of course to everyone who attended the session, asked questions, or signed up as an early tester. Your enthusiasm genuinely fuels the development of this project.
